All drones weighing 250 grams or more must be registered on the Digital Sky Platform. They receive a Unique Identification Number (UIN) which must be displayed on the drone during operation. Drones below 250 grams (nano drones) used recreationally generally do not require registration.

Yes, flying drones is legal in India if operators follow the rules and guidelines set by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), including mandatory registration and compliance with no-fly zones.

Drones are prohibited from flying in no-fly zones such as within 5 km of airports, international borders, military bases, Vijay Chowk in Delhi, and other sensitive government areas. Special permission is required to fly in restricted or controlled airspace.

For drones above 2 kg, pilots must obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) after proper training. For drones under 2 kg, pilot certification may not be mandatory for recreational use but commercial operators must comply with licensing rules.

  1. Nano drones (≤250g) can fly up to 15 meters, while other drones can fly up to a maximum of 120 meters (400 feet) above ground level with proper permissions.

  2.

Night flying is generally prohibited unless special permissions are granted by the DGCA to ensure safe operation.
